Free-born Britons in America? Connecticut Resolutions, 1765

Contemporary American documents from: The Avalon Project, Yale Law School

These extracts give us a great insight into the mindset of contemporary Americans in the early stages of what would turn out to be the American Revolution. Note how the language of the resolution is infused with concepts of rights - both inalienable and as British colonists - drawing heavily from Lockean concepts of social contract theory.
