JOSIAH WEDGWOOD AND SIR WILLIAM HAMILTON
The partnership of Josiah Wedgwood I (1730-95) and Thomas Bentley (1730-80) was heavily influenced by Hamilton's collections of vases, and they made a great deal of money by produing vases in the antique manner. THey also produced series of portrait plaques of eminent men - scientists, doctors, statesmen, etc. Hamilton is here shown in the guise of a Roman. Jasperware with is gilt wood frame. Wedgwood & Bentley (impressed mark), 1779.
