The Lex de imperio Vespasiani, photographed here in the Capitoline Museum in Rome, defined the legal position of the Emperor Vespasian. It tells us how he was 'authorised to transact and do whatever things divine, public and private he deems to serve the advantage and the overriding interests of the state., and validates everything he did prior to the enactment of the law.
