THE PALLADION
One of the most important stolen statues in western literature is the Palladion. This ancient wooden image of Athena guaranteed the safety of Troy: once it as stolen by Odysseus and Diomedes, the city became vulnerable to attack. This sculptural version of the 'Rape of the Palladion' comes from the Grotto of Tiberius at Sperlonga in Italy.
