The 22 shrutis of the Indian classical tradition
Arising from our talk about equal temperament Soumya has sent me the link to a very interesting talk on the shrutis of Indian classical music. These are the 22 divisions of the octave recognised in the Indian classical tradition - as opposed to the 12 divisions of the Western tradition.
The shrutis that are very close together do sound very similar but they are very well demonstrated on this video so that one can hear the subtle difference.
