Emigration from the United Kingdom 1825-1849
There was a great deal of emigration from Britain and Ireland to the United States and British Empire in the nineteenth century. There was a huge increase in the numbers leaving Ireland during the famine
of the 1840s. This article from the Illustrated London News dated July 6 1850 provides statistics and illustrations of this substantial wave of emigration.
