Nizami: ballet of Seven Beauties

This ia a recording of a ballet by Kara Karayev, a 20th-century Azeri composer, based on the 'Seven Beauties' (Haft Paykar) masterpiece by Nizami.It is the story of Bahram V, the Sasanid king who falls in love with seven princesses, who are depicted in a painting in the palace. He woos and weds each of the seven, the 'beauties' of the poem, who represent the seven planets, seven colours, seven days of the week and so on.
