Stained Glass: From Medieval to Modern

This course examines stained glass in English churches, cathedrals and other buildings, from the medieval period to the twenty-first century. We will consider key medieval schemes such as Fairford church (Glos), medieval glaziers such as Barnard Flower, the development of Renaissance glass, the seventeenth-century works Abraham and Bernard van Linge at Christ Church College (Oxford), Gothic Revival glass (including William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelites), Art Deco and Art Nouveau designs, John Piper, Marc Chagall, and contemporary glass artists.
